Allow FAT metadata Stats() to accept a list or single item

Description
Currently the Stats() method of the FAT MetadataLayer accepts only a list. It should accept a list of identifiers or a single identifier and return a list of statistics or a single set of statistics accordingly.
This should be changed prior to the 0.4beta release.
